Since your question involved "which should I learn" I am assuming you are not in the IT industry already. My advice to you is to learn application programming first, because as an entry level programmer you will have better odds of landing a job doing application, web or gui programming than trying to land an entry level job as a systems programmer. From there you could certainly move into systems programming if that interested you more, but Application Programming is an easier place to start.
