What's the best book or online class to buy to get back into programming?

Hello,

About 10 years ago I was an expert hand-coding html/css and was okay with visual basic. But then I stopped. I want to get back into learning programming, but now it's crazy. There's php, apache, c# .net, and a million other things.

What do you guys recommend for me to start learning first?

Thanks!

If you know VB, start with VB.net. That will drag you into ASP.NET.

Microsoft has some great documentation for .NET programming. Start at http://msdn.microsoft.com
Reply:I recommend "Hacking The Art of Exploitation"

Don't be weirded out by the name. It gets down and dirty into pointers and TCP sockets.

It covers C, Python, and BASH shell scripting. It also comes with a live programming environment on CD.

http://www.amazon.com/Hacking-Art-Exploi...

It's aimed for people who know nothing about programming.
