Where can someone learn programming online?

It really depends on what you want to learn. First, think about WHAT will you want to code mostly for (games, web, tools, etc...) then pick one of the many programming tutorials available online.

If you are interested on the real basics of the programming art, i would recommend you to download the following videos from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT: http://swiss.csail.mit.edu/classes/6.001...

Even if it is for LISP, it will give you a solid understanding of the essential "ingredients" of a software application.

Where can someone learn programming online?
You have asked a generalised question. If you are working with web technologies then www.w3schools.com is the best option. it is an official web site of www consortium which gives numerous tutorials for free. If you are working with microsoft technologies then www.microsoft.com is a treasure. Many of its contents are not free but you can still find large free resources whivh can be helpful. msdn will help a programmer in mny ways. genericaly google is a wonderful site which gives you information in one click.

Which programming language should I learn next?

I can currently program in Java but I want to learn another language. I will be using it for both web development and application programming, though mainly application programming. Ive considered C but I think its dying! Its been around for ages...

Its probably out of VB, C#, C++, etc.

I think C# would be best, but I'm after your opinions....

Which programming language should I learn next?
it will be easier to learn C# knowing Java, VB might have been a joke, but I presume you're asking about VB.NET and it's far from a joke - it's basically not different from C# anymore, C++ IS dying. I was studying C++ in the college, but program now only in C# and very occasionally in VB.

to make you choice, it pretty much depends on what you like more, e.g.

C++ is dying but still used for system programming a lot like writing drivers and other low level stuff. it's quite narrow niche and I think it's a bit boring, but you might think different.

C# is the language of my choice (and of the MS by the way as well); a very big potencial for another half a decade at least.

VB.NET - a bit (but just a bit) simpler than C# and just a bit less control than C# - usually people with VB knowledge are switching to VB.NET. Also, even though VB.NET as I've already mentioned is not much different from C#, most of the people (usually not prommers, but the ones you're going to communicate with) consider C# more seriously that VB.

So, the bottom like :))) Go C#!!!!! :)))

Knowledge of SQL is very important as well, but as a side dish for your C# skills :)

Cheers,

Mik
Reply:C# is object oriented just like Java, but it is not architecture independent like Java is.

C++ is pseudo OO, and was the original motivation behind the development of Java.

Going from Java to C++ might be a bit tough, but you will get a good understanding of how the two languages are related.

C++ would be the most useful to learn since it is widely used and has practical application in nearly all systems.
Reply:Well, c# is very, very, very similar to Java. It was pretty much Microsoft's response to Java when the whole Sun-Microsoft connection didn't work out.

I use C#, but I can read and understand Java code pretty easily. Of course the libraries and some syntax related to the libraries will differ, but if you learn one, you pretty much get the other. Kind of like Spanish and Italian
Reply:If you are proficient at Java, you'll find c# simple as to learn. Just download the Visual Studio C# developer pack from Microsoft and start making an application. You'll find it super simple to do because it is so similar to Java.

I'd also learn SQL, become proficient in that, also learn to write nice HTML, CSS its a good skill to have.

Why your at it, install linux on your computer (id use Ubuntu) and learn to work from the terminal, play with Apache, MySQL, PHP and getting all that sort of stuff working in a development environment.

They are all good skills that will help you secure the job you are looking for. Anybody can use a windows IDE to develop Java, C#, Visual basic apps but only some people take the effort to learn how all the background stuff works. Once you have the hang of linux and writing bash scripts, cronjobs and all that fun :) stuff you'll be snapped up by an employer really quickly, purely for the fact that you have gone out of your way to learn stuff and have learn stuff that is considered difficult.

Have fun
Reply:learn java till you master in it....:)
Reply:by far c# that is on the top of the wave right now.

vb is a joke.

Although c++ is a need if you want to work for game makers or become a game maker.

As a 16 year old, how and where can I learn programming and/or graphic designing?

I am a Senior in high school. I got my programming experience from my TI-83 Plus graphing calculator. There are a few reasons why I recommend learning from the TI-83 Plus.

1) Many students have these calculators making the programming accessible.

2) The calculator has a built in BASIC program editor, making on-the-fly programming easy.

3) The calculator has Assembly language capabilities, which is possibly the toughest computer language. If you learn this language, other languages with be easy to master.

4) A program converter/compiler called TIPower offers a C programming language for input to the calculator.

5) The small screen resolution and monochrome graphics makes the introduction to game graphics simple.

6) Almost all of the programs have been made by fellow users and can be downloaded for free at ticalc.org.

http://www.ticalc.org

7) There are several Internet communities set up to provide new ideas and help with programming questions. Possibly the best community is Maxcoderz.

http://www.maxcoderz.org

Learning how to program the TI-83 Plus was vital for my success in programming. The techniques I learned from both TI-BASIC and TI-ASM set a solid foundation for my understanding of programming.

Since my learning, I have easily expanded my knowledge to four different robotic programming languages, HTML/CSS, some Visual Basic, and some C.

It is best to start small and work your way up. This will give you a good idea of how programming works. Also, if you can figure out TI-ASM, then you will know if programming is right for you.

If you own a TI-83 Plus, I strongly recommend that you give it a try. If you'd like more information, feel free to e-mail me at...

As a 16 year old, how and where can I learn programming and/or graphic designing?
There are lots of web design classes that you can probably take through your school but if you want to learn about photoshop for graphic design, i would check this out.

The best training i have ever gotten for photoshop has come through free video podcasts.

If you download itunes you can subscribe to the photoshop tv podcast and get a new episode for free every week.

http://www.photoshoptv.com/

Each episode is around 30-45 min and has a lot of good information on it.

The hosts works for adobe and is the president of the national association of photoshop professionals. (Scott Kelby)

The people who run it really know what the are talking about but they do tend to goof around a bit too...

Great information though.

I have learned more from that than any classes that I have taken.

Good luck!

What is the easiest program to learn programming with?

Buy a book on the programming languages that you want to learn and then read it.

What is the easiest program to learn programming with?
Visual Basic
Reply:That depends on your learning style and your capability to pick up the language. There are always the people who want to take the easy way out and say that they want to learn the easiest and the fastest way to learn computer programming. But all it comes down to is taste, and a matter of living, eating and breathing computer programming, That is how you master the art form...
Reply:basic
Reply:Programming in any language is never easy. But if you want to pick one, first decide what you want to do with it. I enjoy JAVA it is nice since it is very versatile and any computer that has the java runtime can understand it and its web friendly. C++ is very popular and if you learn C++ first, JAVA won't seem so bad as there are many similiarties. However there are many more languages. Check this out http://www.cprogramming.com/langs.html
Reply:although non is easy programing language but still if u are good in algorithm then vb is the easiest one. try it and best of luck.
Reply:just print "Hello World" in your programming language.
Reply:If you want to learn programming, try studying C Language first. Borland C, MinGW C or Turbo C. I think it will be the easiest path to next level of programming.
Reply:There is none, you have to code, break your head to fix bugs and then after few years you will be an expert
Reply:There isn't one.

People are always asking "whats the easiest" and "whats the best" - but the simple answer is that it's a matter of taste.

My recommendation would be to choose a language that suits your programming needs and learn that, regardless of the so-called 'difficulty'.

Once you can program, switching languages is reasonably easy. Just pick one to learn and stick with it for a while, and when you feel ready start to play with other things.
Reply:C programing is the most basic I worked with. But I love JAVA It all depends what you want to do I'd say JAVA There are library of code that could help you complete anything if you have the time plus you whole system wont crash if you program in java.

What is the programming language that I should learn to be able to program application for Symbian OS ?

Like nokia phones applications ..

What is the programming language that I should learn to be able to program application for Symbian OS ?
Most apps for Symbian OS are written in C++, Java, or their own programming language, OPL (Open Programming Language). You should learn a language that allows you to program for Symbian OS, but also one that is the most flexible for your future programming career. Because of that, I would choose Java, but possibly C++, depending on your field of interest.
Reply:You can learn Java it is OS independent language.

and as a language it is very beutyful.

I want to learn the basics of computer programming, where is best to start?

Is there a good book / website that someone can recommend?

I want to learn the basics of computer programming, where is best to start?
You should contact your local college and make full use of the local library.I am just studying C++ myself so I can recommend the following books: C++ for Dummies by Stephen R. Davis, published by Wiley and C++ without fear by Brian Overland, published by Prentice Hall. Both books are informative and user friendly. They both have an accompaning CD-ROM. Online tutorials are also available and a simple search will provide your links.Enjoy your study. good luck!!

Reply:I spent years at college learning how to program - that's the best place to start! Like anything worth learning, it's worth getting taught properly rather than wading through unintelligible gibberish in books etc.

It's not just how to put the programming words and sentences together, you also need to understand about logic and how to put things together in a sensible structures, for example.

BASIC is fairly easy to learn I suppose. People like me in their 30s were using it to program their micro computers as kids in the 1980s. But in the real world there are numerous complex languages that are used.
Reply:i would recommend u to start with JavaScript

javaScript is really intersting because its very interactive in nature

u can learn from w3schools.com

then go for some mature language like C++ or JAVA or C#

If you can take a first level class, do it. If you cant, go to your local community college and pick up a book for one of the lower-division classes.

Computer Science departments also post the notes from their lectures on-line. Though this link is a bit dated it shows you the possibilities out there if you google well:

I agree with the above answer, it best to learn right the first time, because bad habits you learn early make your life difficult when you are actually working.
Reply:If you actually want to learn programming and you have sufficient motivation, then teaching yourself is definitely the best option.

http://www.lynda.com/

Best online tutorial site, and it's pretty cheap. Learn at your own pace, you just have to put in the effort ;)

I myself find that I start slacking off after a few weeks with any sort of tutorial based learning, so if you're at all like me then I suggest you sign yourself up for a class or two.

Sure, they go slower than you can learn the stuff yourself, but they actually do make you learn the stuff. Your choice, just my two cents.

That site is great though for any type of tutorial. If you don't want to pay the subscription fee, you may consider using p2p software to download tutorials from that site. It's very popular so there are plenty of files up.

What should I learn in maths as a programmer?

I am pretty bad at it and because of that I hate it. But I know there are some topics that I just have to learn as I am learning programming. So please can anyone tell me exactly what to learn and if possible with some suggested texts.

What should I learn in maths as a programmer?
it is not some much of, you have to learn math the program. not nowadays anyways because of the high level programing like C++, C#, Java, etc.

The basics of math that you need to learn are simple problem solving techniques. An example of this is training yourself to understand the many different ways to reach the answer of the problem. Ill try to explain this: Lets say that I have the answer of 25 and ask you how I got it. Well you can say, oh, you can get it by adding 5+5+5+5+5, but problem solving techniques let you know that you can also do it 5x5 which is simplier of the computer and will help your program become less confusing and faster.

Sry if it is hard to understand. But math is an important subject for programing, just not as important as it used to be.
Reply:First, Algebra I %26amp; II, programming is all about variables and constants. Calculus won't help you write your code, unless you are making a program that deals with calculus. Geometry and Trigonometry arn't great unless you are making a program dealing with those things.

Which programming language should I try to learn first?

I am familiar with HTML and CSS, which really aren't programming languages, but are worth mentioning I guess. I also am pretty familiar with the programming for a Ti-83, which is a lot like BASIC, though I haven't even used BASIC. I am really just looking for something pretty easy, but a good bit powerful; I am a quick read, and I'll pick something up fast.

Oh, and a guide which teaches me your suggestion would be nice too.

Which programming language should I try to learn first?
I really recommend high level languages like Python and Ruby. They are both mainstream languages (used commercially and so on), are easy to pick up, and are powerful. Plus if you intend to be a serious programmer, you'll know multiple languages of which one of them will probably be either one of the above.

Google for Python. http://python.org is the main website, and you should browse through the documentation section. Python has a number of books available for free online as well.
Reply:Java is good, but one area that is in high demand that can bring you cash results in the future is in PHP programming. Reply:Maybe java. You can download a software called blue J and also some java Software development kit stuff and experiment with that to test out java programming. There are probalby a lot of sites that offer lessons as well. I am taking a class for school at cisco.netacad.net but I don't know how easy it is to get in if not enrolled in a class. Java would be my recomendation. Also, the boolean if then and else and while type statements are very similar to ti 83 basic.
Reply:u know html and css, if u r interested in web programming then go first to javascript, it is fun.. and if u really like it, then i suggest trying with asp.net ( u can use basic, c#, c++ langages inside..)

happy coding :)
Reply:visual basic, it's the easiest, you can get it for free on microsoft's website
Reply:c#, c++, visual basic, and COBOL are simple Programing languages.... but if you want real power your going to need Machine Language... the master code to all programing languages.... If you want out smart every computer programmer out there you need it... they can change the program but when the computer restarts... it goes back to the original machine language... this is why our computers can reboot themselves sometimes after a memory dumb or fix themselves even when you mess with the code. I wrote a few programs but when I learned machine language I became powerful... other programmers try to mess with my computer but were shocked when the program corrected their changes... that's because I wrote it in machine language which you can't change with programing language... machine language is what makes the computer run! and gives programing language it's power... Naturally if programing language gets its power from machine language it can't be greater.

Where can I learn how to program if I don't know anything about programming?

I don't want a tutorial that doesn't make sense I just want to learn how to program some stuff. maybe a little game or hack, something like that

Where can I learn how to program if I don't know anything about programming?
You're asking a lot... with programming you HAVE to crawl before you can walk. And before you can crawl, you have to understand what all this mess is about anyway or you'll wind up falling all over yourself. My recommendation would be to start with Python... there are numerous Python tutorials online for beginners. That's honestly the best place to start. I recommend "A Byte of Python" or "How to Think Like A Computer Scientist"
Reply:it depends also on the language you want to learn... coz they use different concepts, among a lot of other things... :)
Reply:Join some coaching for few days and get some idea from them
Reply:My friend, its not as easy as you think. You need to learn the basics then go from there.
Reply:You don't want a tutorial, you just want to go right to the "experienced" part? Hmm....we could try a mind transfer. You have to be shown something you know. try writing some Autoexec.Bat files. Do a search for Batch files, DOS, Macros. I'm afraid you'll have to look at some "examples" that may seem like tutorials, but that's life. If you have no experience with programming, there is no way you can jump right into game programming. Go to Barnes and Noble and buy a Visual Basic in 21 days book. But then you need the software tools. Maybe try Linux - that stuff is free.

How long will it take to fully learn and master web designing and/or web programming?

For a smart and dedicated learner.

How long will it take to fully learn and master web designing and/or web programming?
There are many languages to do web programming in - HTML, JavaScript, Java, CGI, PERL, the .NET framework languages (VB.NET, C#, J#, ADO.NET, ASP.NET), etc. To learn every web programming language is nearly impossible. you should narrow your criteria - what you want to do with it, then find languages that meet the criteria you have specified.
Reply:This is different for every person. Some people can learn within a week and start making their own websites that are as good as a pros. Most people can probably a month or longer, if they really try. I suggest learning everything fully step by step, before trying to make huge complicated websites, though. Go for it!
Reply:fjpoblam has it about right. What he left out was this: any schmuck can learn to code, but not everyone can DESIGN. If you have little or no design skills, become a web developer. If you have a creative flair, become a designer (or, like most of us who do it for a living....do both).
Reply:In a way, you'll never *fully* learn and *master* it, as it keeps evolving (note previous answerers, names of languages, and note that new languages and methods keep popping up). Visit, for example, www.webmasterworld.com and see that even those of high repute keep asking each other how best to do a thing in web design. If you really push at it, you may be able to design a presentable and functional website in as little as ten minutes (%26lt;html%26gt;%26lt;head%26gt; %26lt;title%26gt;Hello%26lt;/title%26gt; %26lt;/head%26gt; %26lt;body%26gt;world%26lt;/body%26gt; %26lt;/html%26gt;) but it depends on *your* definition of "fully learn and master"

What is the best way to start learning java programming?
there are MANY java programming tutorials online for free.

i highly suggest that you google "java tutorial"

and use as many as possible. I am in the same predicament as you, and i used the tutorials and now the summer semster has started. I know a lot more than the other students, and java isnt such a language that your head hurts by trying to understand it. Use those tutorials, and then if you want, go out and buy a book . I recommend the Schaum's series. that series is very easy to understand, and very thorough!

good luck with your java adventures!!!

2. Start to drag-and-drop with any Java tool :-)
Reply:Get Java for Dummies or a copy of Detail %26amp; Detail java programming, both will give you a jumpstart on the subject matter.... Good luck
Reply:You'd be better to use textPad, use the trial version, and Eclipse. As far as I know, most of java programmer build their application with Eclipse. But for the experimental purpose, textPad is easy to use. You can just press Ctrl+1 to compile, and next Ctrl+2 to run the program you've created. Others answers are correct, use the online tutorial and try to understand the basic structure of the java programming environment.

Next time you're deep into the java programming, you will find that it's too many jargon with java itself (e.g. Java, javascript, javabean, J#, Java Server Pages, Java Swing, J2SE, J2RE, etc.) Just try to understand what is the definition of each, and the differences.

One more thing, don't forget to drink Java Coffee when you're doing java programming. ^^. Good Luck!!

I want to learn how to do basic computer programming. Any advice on where to start?

Sure buddy,

The base of every programming language is C

So if u are a total novoice then start with C

After that u can do C++, .Net, Java etc which all are more or less based upon C

I want to learn how to do basic computer programming. Any advice on where to start?
Check out community colleges in your area. They are likely to offer an introductory course or two. You can probably take them for a small fee and the credits will likely transfer if you decide to take a degree.
Reply:what kind of applications do you want to create? desktop applications or web applications?

Microsoft has free tools available to students and hobbyists that are interested in learning to Program. go to Microsoft.com and research visual studio express. you can learn visual basic, c Sharp, j sharp, or c++ using free development software from Microsoft.
Reply:Well you should have a goal or idea on what you are trying to accomplish. If you just want to tinker around and compile code I would start with the web.

1. Learn HTML (not really programming)

2. Learn Javascript

Then you will be righting code in most peoples eyes. You can also do this for free because your web browser handles both.

Reply:Could you clarify which language exactly? Cause if your talkin' Qbasic, then just read the help files with it. They give example code on how to use it. Plus, just look around on the net and I am sure you could find a pdf or something on how-to. It is like the most basic fundamental programming language there is.

Reply:First, let me say that you will get a lot of different answers based on personal preferences. I have been programming for over 15 years and my personal preferences change as technology changes. This means that I've picked up and programmed in a lot of languages.

For someone who is just starting out, the language that would be the easiest to learn would probably by Visual Basic. Visual Basic is a Microsoft product and has a long history of being the successor to QBasic (a very very old version of basic).

Visual Basic is a language that can be easily picked up by beginners. The upside to learning Visual Basic is that it is also a language used by many Fortune 500 companies for web design, application design, and scripting.

Microsoft provides a tool for writing and compiling Visual Basic called Visual Studio. Visual Studio also provides other languages like C#, C++, and J#, to just name a few. So when you do want to move on to a more advanced language like (C# or C++) you already have the tools necessary.

Between Ruby and Python, go for Ruby and use the Rails platform. If you want to learn another programming language you should learn Java.

What is the best scripting/programming language to use and learn, PHP, Javascript, ASP.net, VB.net?

I'm trying to learn a new programming/scripting language to use on my website, but I want to pick the best one, easiest, most used language. I'm sure it's better to learn all of them, but I have to start with one. I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

What is the best scripting/programming language to use and learn, PHP, Javascript, ASP.net, VB.net?
vb.net is the easiest but Java-script is more commonly used.
Reply:I say JS but this depends on what you intend to accomplish. PHP is server-side scripting vs. JS which is client-side, so if you need to access a database on your server MySql or what have you, then PHP would be an important. As far as VB and ASP are concerned im not a fan of Microsoft developed anything or commercially developed anything for the most part, they have security flaws and other compatibility issues which can go unpatched for far too long.
Reply:Depends on what exactly are you trying to accomplish.

If you want to be a web programmer (server-side) then choose one of the following (priority wise):

1) ASP.NET with C#

2) ASP.NET with VB.NET

3) PHP

When you start working with any of these, you'll also have to learn a little bit of Javascript for something called client-side programming.

If you want to be a web designer then learn:

1) HTML + CSS (using dreamweaver)

2) Graphic/Web Designing (using photoshop/imagreready)

3) Javascript
Reply:I suggest either Javascript or PHP. PHP has become very popular among web developers in recent years, so there are lots of benefits to learning it. Plus, there are many applications available that are written in PHP. It is not too difficult to learn, and there are plenty of books and websites out there with tutorials. Good luck!

I plan on studying this, but does anyone recommend anything? I just finished learning the basics for JAVA, Visual Basics, and C++.

Whats the best programming language to learn that is most suitable for A.I?
AI programs have been written in just about every language ever created. The most common seem to be Lisp, Prolog, C/C++, Java, and even more recently, Python. i recommend Lisp or Prolog bcuz its a high leveled language. lear n Python, but i dnt recomment it bcuz its not knw worldwide!

Prolog combines the high-level and traditional advantages of Lisp with abuilt-in unifier, which is particularly useful in AI. Prolog seems tobe good for problems in which logic is intimately involved, or whose solutions have a succinct logical characterization. Its majordrawback (IMHO) is that it's hard to learn.

LISP- AI was done as research in universities and

laboratories, thus fast prototyping was favored over fast execution. This is one reason why AI has favored high-level langauges such as Lisp. This tradition means that current AI Lisp programmers can draw on many resources from the community. Features of the language that are good for AI programming include: garbage collection, dynamic typing, functions as data, uniform syntax, interactive environment, and extensibility.

Python- This language does not have widespread acceptance yet, but u never knw!! Python is made up of a little of everything above and a bit extra.

Good luck on picking, ur new language!! ^_-
Reply:AI actually transcends programming languages. You can write up pseudocode (like english words to describe what happens in certain cases) and apply that to whatever programming languages you want. Visual C++ will be easier to program games with directx and what not.
Reply:im looking for that to so if you find out please tell me
Reply:It's true that A.I. concepts transcend particular programming languages, but some languages make it easier to implement those concepts than others. If you're going after pure A.I., you probably want to study a dynamic language that allows significant flexibility at run-time, so that you can write cool things like self-modifying code.

LISP is the classic language for A.I. pursuits, and you'll find that there are still a lot of people in academia who use it for those purposes. Outside of universities, though, it's hard to find a job that values LISP skills.

Ruby is a relative newcomer to the field, but it borrows A LOT of concepts from LISP. Plus it's currently a buzzword in many different software development circles, so it looks good on a resume. There won't be nearly as much documentation on it, though, since it's still maturing.

If you're specifically looking at programming A.I. for games, than yes, you're better off with something like C++ or even C. These languages are actually quite hard to use for this kind of programming, but most game developers use them for performance reasons. Dynamic languages are much more flexible, but somewhat slower, since they're interpreted at run-time instead of being pre-compiled into machine code.

Can anyone tell me of a good book/website to learn game programming/modding from?

A pretty good site for an introduction to OpenGL (3D games) programming would be http://nehe.gamedev.net/ They have a variety of demo's available for free download, as well as explanations of the code. Prior to that, you probably want to seek out C/C++ development, as most (not all) games are written in these 2 languages. For those, many of the "Learning C" or "Learning C++" type books from O'Reilly (http://www.oreilly.com) are pretty good starting points.

Don't get frustrated, as this is not easy to jump into, but can be very fun in the long run! Enjoy!

Can anyone tell me of a good book/website to learn game programming/modding from?
It is not a website, nor is it a book, but try downloading the DirectX SDK. The SDK includes a lot of documentation as well as samples using C++ and C#. This is a great way to learn the basics of developing in the 3D environment. It may seem overwhelming at first, but hang on to it, and you will be able to pick it up. As you program with these examples you will start to pickup on the loop structure of a game. There are many other concepts that go into game development, such as AI theory and physic engine development. (I would save those for a later date and time.) If you get started making a render loop with simple graphics, you will be far on your way.

As for the post above me, the advice in using C and C++ is correct. Both languages tend to perform the best in game solutions. But with the new DirectX SDKs (not sure about OpenGL) managed code such as C# is starting to see the light of day in game development. Although I doubt it will ever be used widely as it is slower.

Another option would be to look into Microsoft's XNA. XNA is new and supposedly provides easier tools to develop modern looking games. I havn't looked into much, don't have the time. But check it out, might be worth looking in to. One of my friends has used it in the past and was very pleased.

I almost forgot, IF you decide to go with DirectX as your graphics API, a glorious resource at your finger tips would be Microsofts MSDN site. Just click on the DirectX portion of the site.

What is the best resource to learn C# programming? (Online or Book)?
http://www.learnvisualstudio.net/
Reply:I used this site and it taught me pretty well

http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

Plus you could always ask questions here if you had problems
Reply:Depends on what you want. Quick (relatively) overview, survey type of approach? Online may be better. In depth understanding, for professional or serious work? You might find that a book from O'reilly or Microsoft is good for precise definitions, a relatively rigorous approach, and written for an intelligent reader.

I used several on-line tutorials to learn xhtml-mp and wml for mobile phones and they were quite adequate--but I already knew (older) html in depth. I used the O'reilly book for JavaScript, and it was exactly what I needed--a rigorous and in depth approach.

You can also get other types of books--Wrox and the "for Dummies" books come to mind--which are written to be less demanding for the reader, imo and experience.

To the extent that you are seriously interested in the language and environment, I would suggest that you get one of the more rigorous books (O'Reilly or Microsoft usually, and undoubtedly others). You can check the reviews on Amazon for what will suit you best. Read half a dozen to ten reviews, and you'll have a good picture of the book.

With your background, even though short, you can probably take either/any approach--if you concentrate and focus on learning, you should be able to be producing code in a few days. Slowly at first, and learning as you go, but easily doable. Good luck.

Learn Programming Language BASIC?

Hey Guys I am intersted in Computer Programming

I am an absolute beginner at programming.

Some ppl have advised me to start with programming langauge BASIC first.

1. Can anyone give lists books regarding PRACTICAL learning of using prgramming language BASIC for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS???

2. And can you please give me an insight on what this laguage really is, and its uses???

Thanx

Learn Programming Language BASIC?
I agree. BASIC is the first language I learned before I started programming. BASIC is used for small applications and other non-commercial software, only without the programming power of other languages like C++. I learned BASIC by picking up a few books about it at the library. Usually it will give you an introduction to it, like the Acronym, (Beginner's All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) and teach you how to declare strings and variables. Then it should tell you how to make Input and Output, With a few operations.

The commands are made to be mostly english, which is why it is a basic language to learn. You can use it widely, especially with Visual Basic, to make cool programs such as word processors, shopping list makers. label printers, and all kinds of things. They will also let you make a stand-alone application that will open by itself instead of having to open the compiler and run it.

A key thing in BASIC to learn is,

With most compilers, to declare a variable as a number, only use a single letter. With words, use a letter(or combinations of letters if you need more variables)with a $ sign at the end.

For example, to say that we have a variable9by the way, a variable just means a symbol that represents what you are telling it to hold.)

We could say,

A=4

or AB=4

or A$="four"

or AB$ = "four"

To get data from the user, you use INPUT

INPUT C

This tells the computer to make the user type in something, and stuff that data into a variable named C. But that would be the case if that were a number. If it were words(a string) then you would use

INPUT C$

You can use any Letter(or letters) you want as the variable, as long as you remember to use the plain letter for a number and a letter with a $ for a string of words. Now, say for example, I wanted to print what the user just typed in on the screen:

INPUT C$

PRINT C$

Print is the OUTPUT command. it doesn't tell the computer to print through a printer, it means to display it on the screen. Now let's make a more useful program that calculates sales tax:

(Note: Sales Tax Rates may vary, if so, change the .06 to the amount per dollar for your area.)

PRINT "Enter the original cost"; INPUT A

Let COST=A*.06

Let Cost2=COST+COST2

PRINT COST2

END

Yes, remember to put the END at the end of the program, and use LET when declaring variables like I did in the program. These are examples of standard BASIC programs. (Not all compilers might support these.) If you use Windows, I would recommend you download a file named 'Just BASIC) Just search for it and you will find it. You can make executables by following the steps it gives. Look in the HELP section for more commands in the language. After you have mastered this, try Visual BASIC. Although it does cost money(It comes from Microsoft, of course), it is still the next language above(Although the same language).

Here is a BASIC tutorial site:

http://www.ece.gatech.edu/research/ccss/...

Visual Basic Tutorial:

http://www.vbtutor.net/vbtutor.html

Here is where you can download Just Basic:

http://www.justbasic.com/download.html

*Microsoft Visual Studio is the development environment where you can get Visual Basic. If you really want to use this(It is a lot easier than standard BASIC development because you can make windows and dialogs and put everything where you want it, and it might be your money's worth if you are a Hardcore Programmer.

The BASIC tutorial site is for absolute beginners and I believe it will help you with all of your BASIC needs. Plus, the web site is free, which a book is not, so you can read it on the web for free and master the language.
Reply:I would recommend something with object orientation -- C#, Java, C++, etc.

Basic is obsolete.
Reply:Here is a list of books which can get you started programming in the BASIC family of languages. I particularly recommend Using Basic 2nd edition as it starts you from the ground up and is clearly written with increasing levels of difficulty.

Using Basic 2nd Edition by Phil Feldman %26amp; Tom Rugg

(c)1993 by Que ISBN: 1-56529-140-9

Also well written and based on Qbasic:

Qbasic by Example by Greg Perry

(c)1993 by Que Corporation ISBN:1-56529-439-4

Learning Basic byDon Inman

(c)1992 by SAMS ISBM 0-672-30007-9

These use Qbasic 1.1 interpreter which can be downloaded for free. Qbasic 1.1 is based on Quick Basic 4.5 compiler which was the commercial compiler offered by MicroSoft. You really can get a good start just using Qbasic 1.1

The BASIC family of languages very English like statements which are then converted to machine language and executed by the computer to do what ever you wish; accept user input, display text or graphics. While early versions of BASIC were rather limited, by the time Qbasic 1.1 was released it had matured considerably. Modern BASIC languages such as PowerBasic Console Compiler can now compile 32 bit Window programs using nearly the same code.

BASIC is an all purpose language able to produce business programs, games, engineering models, databases, just about anything. The programming logic should also prepare you for other languages C, C++, Java or what ever you choose.

Check out some of the sites you can find at http://www.qbtop50.com and download Qbasic 1.1 and also some of their program code to see what you can do using Basic. Hope this helps.
Reply:agreed how ever basic has got a bigger brother visual basic

look on the net for visual vb 2005 express its a free ide and a very good first laguage

I am a teen and I want to learn computer programming and microprocessor design what do I do?

Computer science won't teach you anything about microprocessor design. That would be more about computer *engineering*.

Programming wouldn't require nearly as much formal training. You can usually learn more about that by Googling whatever languages, tasks and environments you are interested in.

I am a teen and I want to learn computer programming and microprocessor design what do I do?
Contrary to what the other poster said, if you really want to learn computer programming, studying compsci at school may not be the best use of your time (though you probably want to go to university for other reasons). Unless you go somewhere very high-end like MIT you're better off teaching yourself.

I can't talk much for microprocessor design. To my knowledge, that kind of thing is harder to self-teach because of all the specialized equipment that you need to get started. I took several microprocessor design courses for my Software degree, and they were among the most worthwhile classes I took, definitely a better use of my time than those programming classes!

If you're really into processor design, go to school for that. In the meantime, download some scripting language runtimes and give yourself a head start. If you have control over your own computer, I'd recommend installing Linux on it (Ubuntu is a good choice http://www.ubuntu.com/), as it comes with many different languages installed and is in general a much more developer friendly platform than windows. Otherwise, just go download Ruby (download for windows: http://rubyinstaller.rubyforge.org/wiki/... , book: http://www.rubycentral.com/pickaxe/) or PHP and get started building stuff! I recommend those languages in particular because they are pretty easy to get started with, but you will definitely want to explore other languages, too.

Learn to use Google and Wikipedia to learn about different languages and different programming paradigms, and try to write meaningful/useful/fun programs for many platforms as you can. As you go, take note of all the things you do that cause you problems later on, and at some point go back and do those projects again. And when you have the confidence, implement your own programming language! Once you can do that, you will probably be more programming-wise than 90% of the people who come out of the university CS programs.

By learning about both programming and microprocessor design, you will end up with a much greater understanding of both fields than someone who learned about only one of those subjects, so I'm glad you're interested. Good luck!

PS: Don't forget to go outside and talk to girls once in a while. When you get started programming you can become very engrossed may forget to attend to other important things. ;)
Reply:Study computer science at university. Start learning programming using python and C++ from now. Read lots of math and physics.

Which programming language is more useful to learn?

I'm student my major is information system i want to know which programming language is more useful to learn i also know c++,DB2,java but i'm not sure wheter I should continue c++ nor java or I should learn another programming language in addition I hate mathemathic programming like c++ my major is related to data base I like java but what else is useful? and certainly with more sallary??

Which programming language is more useful to learn?
JAVA rocks!! buddy...Open Source! will always rock....what you expect? will people will pay ransom for Microsoft programs....

Success of MOZILLA n ThunderBirds tells you the whole story

i clearly disagree with the peeps who have posted in favor of .NET .

things are rolling back in favor of Open source community cos of high costs of Microsoft products.

What much does VS.NET costs? and what much does the JAVA? give this thought.

As a matter a fact theres paradigm shift towards open source +MS technology together.

well, you can earn better as freelancer or as enterpeunur in java, But if you want to get your bum always sticked to work place chair...n work under someone go for .NET.

I wonder what does you mean JAVA does it only core java or it has advanced java ? AJAX? so many more to learn buddy!

hope this will solve your issues

Cheers:)
Reply:I don't know, I say stick with what you are already working with but add some web skills to your profile for now. C# .NET is what I would look into later after web programming.
Reply:The idea behind programming is to know more than one, two or three programming languages. The more you know, the more you can get paid. It's not guaranteed, but you're certainly improving your chances.

Brandon

Reply:SQL is the best..

Structured Query Language, is a computer language designed for the retrieval and management of data in relational database management systems, database schema creation and modification, and database object access control management.[1][2] SQL has been standardized by both ANSI and ISO.
Reply:.NET would probably be something to check into since companies have been using that more lately. Flashscript is something that some people find it difficult to find good designers
Reply:Visual Studio.NET is a Microsoft IDE for developing both desktop and web applications. It offers developers a choice of languages to work in and allows those languages to work together.

For example, an ASP.NET web application has elements of HTML and ASP in it. For behind the scenes coding or data retrieval will be functions written in VB.net, C#.net or both. And suppose you have a running countdown clock on the page...that's likely a Javascript function. So I've listed 5 different languages all working together on one website.

For your purposes, I'd look into C#.net. It will be an extension of what you already know from your C++ and JAVA work.

for programming there are many languages to work with, for networking there are many system type available in a market,

once you finalize use yahoo/google to search the related info

e.g. if you decide a programing with php

then search for "php tutorial" at yahoo/google
Reply:start off by learning from www.w3schools.com. This is an internet standard website for all programmers. Start by clicking on "Learn HTML" and start from there. HTML is the basics of programming and it is pretty cool to use once you learn it for the first time.

Once you master HTML, you can click on "Learn ASP" for dynamic programming.

You can also learn these as well.

What exactly should I know about maths if I want to learn programming? Answers to this are really appreciated?

You don't need to know anything more than basic arithmetic, depending on what you're programming and what language you're intending to learn!

A logical, methodical mind and a lot of patience is all you really need...most languages i use have a Math function, such as math.exp (for inputting a formula), so it really depends on what you're working with.

For example, if you're programming graphics then you'll need more of an understanding of vectors, area, volume etc. Music often requires inputting expressions, (usually ones that you can pull straight from the text books), but you need to have a mind logical enough to break the information up into segments and then implement it.

But to begin with, you don't generally you don't need any and what you need you'll pick up as you go along.

What exactly should I know about maths if I want to learn programming? Answers to this are really appreciated?
Since you're beginning to learn, the most you'd really need to know is algebra and/or logic. I really don't think you'll need to have a strong grasp for calculus or anything higher. The main thing is to understand logic structures and the concept of variables.
Reply:Start with algebra and end with calculus. There are all kinds of formulas used when doing most kinds of programming.
Reply:Develop an interest in maths and be strong in the basics. With this you develop logic is very important so that it just leads to the sequence which is important in programming to get the right results.
Reply:if u r a beghinner in programming, then elementary maths is enough.

If ur programming demands complex graphics and AI, then calculus and diiff. equations play a major part

Is it worth to learn the Pascal programming language?

we study it at school but i think C or C++ are better and more used.

Is it worth to learn the Pascal programming language?
Pascal is a great language. It's the first one I learned. However, there's very little demand for it now. You'd be much further ahead to learn Java. Java is pretty simple, universally accepted, and commonly used for many applications. In fact, many companies are converting their C++ based apps to Java.
Reply:If you are already aware of the programming language basic concepts then it's not worth too much, good otherwise. If you know how to program, I'd recommend you go with something like C# or VB.NET.
Reply:nope, you just do pascal for the beginning, just use c++
Reply:Well, Pascal is still being used (not very much AFAIK), so if you stick to it you won't find yourself alone. Besides, Pascal is a good stepping stone for learning C/C++. But once you learn those, you may not want to go back.
Reply:Pascal is a graet language when it come to structured programming. I think it is more user friendly than C. As to whether its worth studying it further, its an individual's choice. It's true that it has hardly any applications now and that there are now languages with more practical use.

Or how long did it take you to learn it?

About how long does it take to learn the basics of the programming language C# of C Sharp?
Since I am well experienced in C++ and OO programming, It only took me a few days to be up and programming in C#. It has the same syntax and grammar as C++. But I am still learning some of the libraries and every release of .Net adds changes and features. So I am still learning two years later.
Reply:If you download Visual C# Express from the website:

%26lt;www.microsoft.com/express/vcsharp/def...

Then you will have a free compiler. I know this isn't what you asked but if you open the compiler with the internet hooked up you can navigate from there to the beginner Development Center which guides you through many of the basics. It's extremely easy to understand and as long as you understand basic programming concepts, then you should be able to get through it in 11 hours. However, if you already have a compiler then you could visit:

www.microsoft.msdn.com/ for C# tutorials and it will quickly guide you through the basics. C# is fairly easy to learn, so it shouldn't take long to learn the basics; however, more advanced concepts could take a lifetime to master.

Better opt for Comp. sci.

most engineering courses require one programming course usually in C or Java.

The idea is not to learn programming but to show critical thinking and train for fast problem solving and analysis.

Knowing how to program is really useful in daily life but if you need the degree then work on that language and learn the syntax as that is one of the stuff many people have problem with in those courses.

Other than this, get hold of any code you can and have a look through it.

It's a nice language, enjoy.

What is the best way to learn programming?[in particular JAVA programming]?

Try the source :) Java is a Sun technology, so check out http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/

What is the best way to learn programming?[in particular JAVA programming]?
learn C instead, java is slow and bloated.
Reply:First you learn a language. Keywords, data types, loops, functions, strings, IO. Once you have that you are ready to attack problems:

--computational problems

-data structures

--I/0 etc. Point is do not jump to writing enterprise apps first. You need to learn how to think as a programmer first. Basics first.

Then you can jump into writing some useful apps for the enterprise.

This way you will explore the rich Java libraries and master OO concepts

How can i learn about computer basics, software languages,desgining,programmin... free on net ?

computer basics like ms office, programming languages web designing and all about software..... these are the things i want learn free of cost online.

How can i learn about computer basics, software languages,desgining,programmin... free on net ?
Usually by going to Google.com and typing in what you are wanting to learn plus the word tutorial at the end. So for MS Office, you would type in "MS Office tutorial".

Just keep in mind that if you have to sign up for anything (free) you may want to get a separate email account to do so since you could get a lot of spam later.

Ones I use are:

1. MS Office--http://www.msoffice-tutorial-training.co...

2. Web technology--http://www.w3schools.com

I am a technology consultant, and provide training to my clients and have found these 2 alone very helpful.

Hope this helps!

Is it advisable to learn computer programming?

Does it ever hurt to gain a new skill? How about a marketable skill that also sharpens your logical reasoning abilities? Too good to be true, eh?

Is it advisable to learn computer programming?
Well its nice to know. If you know how to program C+, you'll fly right through calculus in college. It will also help your logic and increase your IQ.
Reply:yeah

if u need it.
Reply:Yes. People who make their living programming have one of the highest paid, lowest stress jobs in the world--although it is not stress free.

I was a programmer for 10 years, and went to work straight out of high school. I was making six figures before I had finished my college degree.

Later on, when I decided to become a lawyer, people looked at me strangely and said--"But, you'll have to take a pay cut." Which was true, at least at first.

Computer programmers are problem solvers and the ability to think logically exercised on the job has been helpful solving many non-technical problems too.

Everyone who works with computers should learn at least the basics of programming--instead of having an advanced, futuristic typewrite on your desk, you will know how to make your computer your beech, and that makes you truly valuable to any employer.
Reply:it is abvisable to learn as much of anything as you can. Knowledge is POWER!

What program is the best for programming, between Mathematica and Maple?

'm a mathematician master student and i need to perform a program, but i'm new in programming thinks. So i need to create a algorithm who manipulate letters in a word, and i found in internet that Maple or Mathematica can help me to do this. I want to learn programming too, so what program is better? Thanks

What program is the best for programming, between Mathematica and Maple?
I agree with nam. I find mathematica easier to use. Please view this question and its responses.

Reply:I have no experience in Maple, but I think Mathematica is easy to learn.

How would a visualy impaired person learn to program modern computers?

I have a friend who was very good at programming in basic.

How would he learn how to program computers now at days?

He developed some really neat text games useing the basic program language.

Basic doesn't excist .How could he do it now?

He uses a screen reader.(Jaws)

How would a visualy impaired person learn to program modern computers?
In the UK London area!...there are centres that set up "easy access" computers especially for special needs clients...Im sure they exist outside the UK?... I know a couple of "sight impared"...guys that have passed exams!...and have got good jobs from easy access computers...Ive just checked out my Acer Aspire?...and its got "easy access" built into it...Go for it?...
Reply:my best friend is visually impaired. she is also an author and spoken word poet. She has a program called zoomtext (or something like that) on her computer that makes the words larger.
Reply:Braille keyboards and computer manuals...?

I'm not sure if they make them, but it's always worth looking into....
Reply:Look, there is no reason why he should have a problem learning to use and or program for any operating system. Linux and Unix have a screen reader called Gnopernicus. I'm sure the Mac has its own. With Jaws he should be all set for Windows.

To program all he needs are a text editor and a compiler. All the compilers I know of have the ability to compile from the command line and deliver error messages to the console. This includes Visual C++ and Borland's packages. IDE and other eye candy are just that -- eye candy. If he wants to get back into programming and the serious study of computers -- I do recommend engineering and software engineering courses. That would help him kick it up to the next level. If he can read the screen even with help he can program.
Reply:I'm not sure what you mean by "Basic doesnt exist". Basic is still around!! There are plenty of Basic compilers to be had. For example http://www.freebasic.net/

and there are many others.

What language do you recommend if you want to learn how to program?

Assuming a person knows nothing about programming, but wants to begin learning, what programming language would be the easiest, yet most effective, introduction to coding?

Which language is easier to transition from when trying to learn other languages?

Are there any languages to avoid?

Where can one learn about and how to program, and tutorials on different programming languages, maybe even a pros and cons site about individual programming languages?

Anyways, thanks for any help you cool kids can offer!

What language do you recommend if you want to learn how to program?
Python is a good beginners language.

http://python.org/

It is OO, so it is relatively easy to transition to other OO languages from it.

There are lots of languages to avoid, BrainFuck is an obvious one.

http://www.greenteapress.com/thinkpython...
Reply:The most applicable to my life has been visual basic.. i use it for the front end interface of databasing. When used in conjunction with microsoft access you can build some pretty functional stuff. Next to that is SQL (Select Query Language) which is like computer straight logic. (take this information and do this with it, then do that) great for running businesses and corporations.

Say you collect information on a daily basis like daily reports, sick calls, shift tracking.. you can get your users to input information into forms then have your database compute, e-mail, report whatever you want it to do with the information you would like to collect.. It can make your day alot simpler and you would have loads of time to say.. sit around and answer database questions on yahoo answers :)
Reply:I recommend learning to program if you want to learn to program. Learning a language is NOT learning to program, any more than learning French is learning to write great literature.

Get a copy of Wirth's "Algorithms + Data Structures = Programs". (Amazon usually has a few copies for less than $5.) It'll teach you program design without reference to any computer language.

Then choose the language most appropriate to the job, learn the particular syntax and rules, and you'll actually know what you're doing. Learning languages is easy - knowing how to use them requires a knowledge of program design.
Reply:if you want to make web pages then try xml or html...
Reply:At first there is no the best Programm but there is a way you want to Programming with for example if you want to learn how to create programe for web site and see how people in this world connecting and enjoy with you're web site you need to learn on of these language :

PHP language

ASP language

Could Fujian

and here i will recommend PHP.

And if you want to create that programm in you're computer and install the programe in the computer .... you will choose one of this list:

Visual basic

Delphi

and here you just need to take Visual basic coz it is coming of Microsoft and don't forget put in you're mind that Delphi is power language ...and Visual basic and Delphi can to give you the same thing but who is powerful ?
Reply:try to do python then learn C then C++ then Java

that is for making games

to make websites do:

HTML then Java Script

Good luck!!!!
Reply:HTML is a good starting language it is fairly simple and it is based on tag coding (EX %26lt;html%26gt;);

For application coding C# or C++ is an excellent language to start off with. It is very similar to PHP and javascript, which are widely used application programming on the web.
Reply:The actual answer to your question depends on your future goals. If you are thinking about development in a professional capacity, then starting with C# or Java makes strategic sense. You can start with a pace as slow or fast as desired; the time investment will be worth it. There are many good books (some free at http://mindview.net/Books/DownloadSites) and courses to assist with these powerful object-oriented languages.

If you are a hobbyist, then Python or Ruby should be considered. During the 70's and 80's, the answer would have been Basic (primarily Microsoft's popular version). There are many flavors of Basic today such as VB.net, TrueBasic, Dark Basic, or Microsoft Office VBA. Some truly swear by Delphi (based on Pascal) but it has a rather limited audience.

On the cheap, you can simply start with JavaScript built into every good browser. JavaScript is very easy to learn and has webpage utility for DHTML interactions but will likely breed bad programming habits. However, the coding experience and constructs can translate fairly well to Java programming. I should mention that shell coding on Linux or Unix boxes will also provide programming experience that translates to other languages (procedural types).

If you have the time, select a couple languages to dabble in. Each tool has their own strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, there is no "best" language to master. IBM once thought they could create the ultimate general purpose language by mixing Cobol, Fortran, and Algol together; it was a mild success for their mainframes but didn't spread any further.

I would recommend you avoid functional, logic/list-based or rule-based languages initially. They can be easy to learn but the experience won't translate well to other languages. Therefore, avoid Haskel, Prolog, Lisp, Scheme, etc. There are hundreds of special purpose languages that won't help during transitions. It has its place, but I wouldn't recommend you start with a stack-oriented language (e.g. Forth).

I need to learn c++ programming and I'm only 14, what do I do?

I'm a 14 year old kid and I need to learn C++ programming... HELP!!!!!

I need to learn c++ programming and I'm only 14, what do I do?
Buy a book
Reply:hello chap google basic c++ n u will get some hits and maybe some crash courses about it..Or u can download a prg called microsoft visual studio but i do recommend u read a bit b4 u plunge into this prg..go to the nearest library and pick a beginners book in programming.good luck its fun once u get the hand of it...
Reply:Do it like you would do sports if you wanted to become good at it, learn the basics and maybe even the history of it to understand it. I would start with it's history of the computer and go from their. For you start with dos.
Reply:I don't understand why you have to study C++ at 14 ....anyway first go to a library and find a good C++ book ...go through the basics ...... download the C++ compiler to your system (Borland 5.5) here's a website whr u would find the compiler :

http://www.codegear.com/downloads/free/c...

its a free compiler.....k...after you have downloaded the compiler search the web for the instructions on how to run the compiler...

all done u are ready to roll on ..
Reply:I was your age when I got interested in programming. My first programming book was "C For Dummies" and it came with a trial version MS Visual C++ compiler. I suggest you find a book like that which has everything you need to get started and explains how to do things in clear English. Good luck!
Reply:search for online guides in C# and C++. Get into the community. Use open source programs and study the code and learn what functions do what.
Reply:if you can't find a class at your community college (you can sign up for classes at the community college even if you aren't out of high school yet) i suggest going on half.com and ordering a ton of books (you can get them much cheaper there used than you would pay in a bookstore) and dedicating an hour or two each day to reading and practicing. also, there's tons of research online available.

remember, coding is a difficult thing to grasp, but once you've got how to think in order to program, things start coming together. remember, just be patient with yourself, and don't try to learn overnight.
Reply:Don't remember that old programmers don't use a mouse, that's stupid advise. That's what old programmers say, you need to embrace technology. Programmers work toward moving technology forward, not living in the console days.

Anyways, the best thing to do would be get Microsoft Visual C++ Express http://www.microsoft.com/express/vc/ which is free.

You can either search the web for good C++ tutorials, or if you have some money C++ for dummies is a great book to start with. http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesT...

If I was you I wouldn't program in VI and UNIX unless you are comfortable in that environment already because you will be have enough trouble learning C++ without the extra challenges learning VI and UNIX.
Reply:i was 13 when i started learning c++ now im 15 and i program video games. I started out with books and sites like www.cplusplus.com if your fluent with computers you should learn easily, i was pretty good with computers before i started programming but after i know about 90 times more.
Reply:Best thing to do is get an old PC and install Linux on it. Then learn Vi and start writing code. Linux comes complete with gcc and all the libraries you need for c++. Remember, real programmers don't use a mouse so do everything in the console.
Reply:First, C++ isn't easy to learn, but age shouldn't affect you much. The younger you are the faster you learn.

Why do u want to learn C++ are you going to live %26amp; work in India?

What are the best and first steps to learn programming computers?

like example : from where and with what things

What are the best and first steps to learn programming computers?
i would check out

http://www.w3schools.com/

this is a very good place to start or goto your local book store and pick a beginners book.
Reply:Take introductory class to programming and the class will teach you basic fundamental designs such as programming design, psuedocode, and loops.
Reply:Go buy "The C Programming Langauge" by dennis ritchie.
Reply:Decide what lang you want to learn and then join the class.
Reply:It is much more critical to define what you want to do with the software, than to learn any language. If you want to write web pages, w3schools.com is great. If you want to write windows applications, I would start with C# (you can download the VS platform for free at Microsoft - see link below). If you want to write programs that will run on several different environments, start with Java (check out Eclipse, it's a great IDE). Most of the time, you can Google a "How to" on any language and you can get great tutorials.
Reply:If you wan to learn to become an expert, may be I can suggest you my way to learn about programing.

1st Learn Turbo Pascal 7.1 and Turbo C++ (DOS Based)

why ? because in here you can learn about the basic for Branching (if... then .... ), Looping (do.... while....), Procedure - Function, Reccusion, etc.

Why C++ ? it's need if you want to become an expert for JAVA progaming. And also in here try to learn about the basic of Object Oriented programing/OOP. Which need for the 2nd step.

Also te learn about Programing Algorithm, DATA Structure. This helps you to make a structured Algorithms in your program, easy to develop in next time.

This first step is a basic of the basic. An old folks said :

"IN OLD TIMES WHEN WE LEARN ABOUT DOS VERY DEEP. SURE ITS SUCKS. BUT WHEN WINDOWS COME OUT, WE CAN BE THE EXPERT OF IT, ALSO POSSIBLE FOR US TO LEARN LINUX, EVEN WORST WE CAN BE A HACKER BY OUR SELF"

And I said this one is for REAL.

2nd Learn for Borland Delphi, VB, JAVA

After learning Pascal, C++. You should be already understand about OOP, which it makes you easy to handel Delphi/VB/JAVA. Because in here it's OOP and makes you easy and could make a good program interface using its GUI/Graphical User Interface.

And also this Step used at most University for Information system / Computer Science.

If you having trouble to study about programing, feel free to contact me.

Thanks
