Which computing programming language should i learn?

i'm interested to learn a programming language on my own time but have NO idea where to start. there are so many to learn, from c++, java, perl, etc. i'm just wondering which is the best to learn? or the most ideal one?

Java and C# are the easiest to learn, and will let you do things with GUI's fairly easily. If you're on a budget, I'd say Java so you can do it for free*.





Whether you learn it first or learn it later, though, you must at some point learn C. Managed code is taking over for some things, but at the end of the day, you need to know your pointers and you need to understand memory allocation and management.





Leave perl alone for now.

Reply:Hey, you need to try BASIC or Python before you move on to C and C++. C and C++ are more flexible to create programs with, but BASIC and Python are easier to learn. If you want to be a web designer, you use different languages, for example, java, perl, HTML, PHP, and CSS. You can get free BASIC compilers, while I think free C and C++ compilers are rare.

Reply:some knowledge in C or C++ will be helpful in the future but not really essential. These lang help u to understand the basic of programming. My advice, learn the basic until u can make a calculator.. The rest depends on your preference.





If u are into web programming, It is best to learn Java and PHP. And later u will want to learn SQL. These lang are really the most marketable. Cheapest way to get employed and work in cubicles. Other alternative for web programming are ASP, JSP, ColdFusion etc. Good but not high in demand.





For software programming, u can either continue with C++ or maybe venture in the .NET world with VB.net and C#.





Like i say it depends on you. Maybe u can narrow down to more specific target. What kind of programmer u wanna be. Web, Game, Software, Database etc etc..
