Which programming lang. should I learn in holidays of 2 months?

I haven't learnt any programming laguage yet. I have holidays for next 2 months. Which language should I learn?

I would like to learn it on my own with the help of books.

Please mention the applications of the language you would like to suggest. Also suggest some books for it.

Thank you.

you should learn C++ in your holidays

C++ is Functon oriented language you will enjoy to learn it

Deitel %26amp; Deitel and Robert Lafore are the best to learn from them...........
Reply:If its for 2 months for for basics and learn html and make a website, add more with ajax and stuffs and its fun and you can atleast show that site to your friends.
Reply:if this is your first time in programming, i suggest you study visual basic(.net). it's very "eye-candy" for starters.

however, if you are looking for the best ones around, then study C/C++ and perhaps Java.
Reply:I suggest you start studying with C/C++ or Java as these languages pretty much cover most of the concepts in object oriented programming, which is the most prevalent programming paradigm these days. And once you mastered any of these you would only need small to medium adjustments to learn other languages.

It is important though that you focus more on paradigms and concepts rather than languages them selves as these concepts mostly stay the same through out, and they just differ on how they are implemented in different languages.

I suggest Dietel %26amp; Dietel books, as they are fun to read and they make you follow a single project that involves many aspects of programming, making it easy to understand.

For more general reading on concepts and paradigms I suggest "Ravi Sethi: Programming Languages - Concepts and Constructs" It is a good read, but a little more in depth.
