Wjhich programming language should i learn?

I will soon graduate from melectromechanic engineering and I am familair with design software (autocad and solidworks especially) but I think I should learn a programming language but I am a little overwhelmed by the vast quantity of available languages. My intentions are to work in Canada, so based on this; which do you think would be the most apropiate/useful? Also, do you especially recommend any other deisgn software?

THanks in advance!

Wjhich programming language should i learn?
learn C++ and VC++ so that u can do system programming. these are evergreen subjects from last 10 years. I f u learn other subjects they will change with in one year.
Reply:I can use Visual Basic for most all my needs without having to sit for endless hours debugging C+...
Reply:Try learning the C language, then the Delphi if you like.

Because you are already graduating any language which you personally prefer is alright. If you intend to work in a specific company, then try learning the language they are using, especially in big corporations.
Reply:LISP is an old program language, but it comes in very handy for customizing AutoCAD. I just learned it "on the fly" over the last 17 years or so and it has enhanced the production of every company I have ever worked for. AutoCAD is the standard of many industries for design, engineering, mapping and many other applications. It's the universal tool used by most in my profession. The only deviation from that being those who do work for the state and federal government. I think it's because they don't need to make a profit.
Reply:Based on ur educational background i think u should go for microprocessors programing, which is now a days a wide open field and many job opt like robotics, space satellite, aeronotics....

i am recomending this because language is relavent to ur field but if u go for other programming languages i think u will lose the right path.
