I'm trying to learn a new programming/scripting language to use on my website, but I want to pick the best one, easiest, most used language. I'm sure it's better to learn all of them, but I have to start with one. I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.
What is the best scripting/programming language to use and learn, PHP, Javascript, ASP.net, VB.net?
vb.net is the easiest but Java-script is more commonly used.
Reply:I say JS but this depends on what you intend to accomplish. PHP is server-side scripting vs. JS which is client-side, so if you need to access a database on your server MySql or what have you, then PHP would be an important. As far as VB and ASP are concerned im not a fan of Microsoft developed anything or commercially developed anything for the most part, they have security flaws and other compatibility issues which can go unpatched for far too long.
Reply:Depends on what exactly are you trying to accomplish.
If you want to be a web programmer (server-side) then choose one of the following (priority wise):
1) ASP.NET with C#
2) ASP.NET with VB.NET
3) PHP
When you start working with any of these, you'll also have to learn a little bit of Javascript for something called client-side programming.
If you want to be a web designer then learn:
1) HTML + CSS (using dreamweaver)
2) Graphic/Web Designing (using photoshop/imagreready)
3) Javascript
Reply:I suggest either Javascript or PHP. PHP has become very popular among web developers in recent years, so there are lots of benefits to learning it. Plus, there are many applications available that are written in PHP. It is not too difficult to learn, and there are plenty of books and websites out there with tutorials. Good luck!
Reply:What is your site running on?
Linux: PHP, Javascript
Windows: ASP.net, Javascript
